STAY MOTIVATED

HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED…

Take it ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Surround yourself with POSITIVITY.
Create a VISION BOARD.*
Make S.M.A.R.T. GOALS.**
REWARD YOURSELF.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
Acknowledge your POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES.
Recognize your PROGRESS.
Visualize accomplishing your GOALS.
BE KIND TO YOURSELF.
DON’T COMPARE yourself to others.

*A VISION BOARD is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal where you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life.

**S.M.A.R.T. GOALS are specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused, and time- bound.

ADULT SOFTBALL

Spring and fall trophies
Four Wolverine grads part of local

adult softball championship team

Softball is a game that you really CAN take with you. It doesn’t have to end in the last at-bat in school-ball.

It can be seven innings played well beyond high school or college whether it’s simple pickup games, or competitive corporate teams or hard-played adult leagues.

Last night, Monday, October 22, playoff games were contested late into the night for this Fall’s adult slow-pitch championship at Dover’s Schutte Park, Delaware.

Four Wesley College grads who played in past years wearing the fastpitch Wolverine uniform participated on the winning Knight’s Fine Jewelry team. They are Kayla Fromal, Lily Engel, Whitney Dibb and Wesley sports Hall of Fame member Kim Smith.

Earlier this past Spring, the Knights’ finished second of the seven league teams but played on to win the championship in the playoffs. This Fall, the Knights’ went undefeated throughout the season and playoffs to grab their second championship trophy this year.

SMYRNA HOMECOMING

HS homecoming
Fastpitch Wolverines cheer on
Jess Anderson at Smyrna parade

The Homecoming Parade is an American tradition. It’s happening now, this Fall, in small towns across Delaware. (The Wesley College Homecoming is set for next week’s Saturday – Monday, October 27-29.)

Jess Anderson
It was Smyrna, Delaware’s turn last Friday evening, October 19. Striding or motoring down Main Street were marching bands, fire trucks, cheerleaders, farm tractors, local dignitaries, a multitude of floats and school sports teams, including Delaware’s 2018 softball state champions, the Smyrna Eagles!

Delaware’s 2018 fastpitch Player of the Year, First-Team All-State, currently Wesley Wolverine freshman #11 P Jessica Anderson (Smyrna, DE), returned to her hometown for the parade. She rode with her champion high school team, smiling and waving enthusiastically from the Smyrna High softball float.

Lined up on the curb – & getting there early for a good spot – were Jess’ Wesley College fastpitch Wolverine teammates to cheer her on.

IN YOUR MIND

The game is already won or lost in your mind and heart long before you step into the circle. Championships are determined on the practice field, early in the morning, late in the evening, and every time you make sacrifices in the pursuit of a dream that only you can see for yourself.

GIFT OF SOFTBALL

JENNIE FINCH: I think the best thing softball has given me is the friendships, the sisterhoods … growing up with two older brothers and being able to have sisters.

I think, too, just truly pushing my body to the max, fighting all my insecurities, battling through so much on the field, off the field.

Realizing we are in charge of our mind and our mind is our most powerful tool. We have to own it. That’s huge: the confidence factor, and seeing the hard work pay off.

Discovering who I am as a person, as an athlete, and having sport guide, direct and lead me there.

SLAP HITTER SPEED

SOFTBALL SLAP-HITTERS stare down a base path of just 60 ft. while having only 0.350 seconds to locate a pitch and as little as 0.025 seconds to decide whether to swing. Then, when the ball is in play, there’s a race at speeds reaching 19 mph, sprinting from home to first in as little as 2.66 seconds. A third base fielder can take no more than 1.5 seconds (or throw faster than 100 mph) to record a slapper out! – ESPN stats.
